Italian startup IdentifAI has secured €5 million in Series A funding led by United Ventures, just about ten months after raising €2.2 million in seed funding. IdentifAI was founded by cybersecurity experts Marco Ramilli and Marco Castaldo with a clear mission: restore trust in digital content by detecting AI-generated images, videos, and audio in real-time.
The urgency is clear. When a viral photo of Pope Francis in a white puffer jacket fooled millions before being revealed as AI-generated, it highlighted the fragility of visual trust. According to research by Deloitte, 70% of people worry about synthetic content being used to deceive or manipulate them. Deloitte's research also claims that around 60% of people recognize they have trouble telling AI-generated and human-made content apart.
IdentifAI brings a security-first mindset to detection technology. Their platform assumes bad actors will attempt to bypass detection and adapts accordingly, updating its response as existing generative models evolve and new ones are released into the market. The system works across multiple media types and provides forensic indicators for specific use cases in finance, insurance, and media.
"We've built a system that evolves in real time, allowing us to respond rapidly as new generative models enter the market," explained co-founder Marco Castaldo.
The funding will accelerate IdentifAI's expansion into European and US markets while continuing R&D on their detection engine—positioning the company as a key player in maintaining digital authenticity.
